As Chief Executive and Founder of the Zachary Geddis Trust, Yasmin attends many launches, consultations, reports and calls for action, with hope for change.
But sometimes hope is difficult to hold onto and it must be followed by actions.
Almost ten years after Zachary died, we need collaboration in our community and voluntary sector, and the potential for meaningful change made possible by lived experience being genuinely listened to.
Suicide prevention cannot exist only in isolation in strategies, reports, inquiries, launches or funding announcements.
People do not experience their lives department by department. Poverty, addiction, trauma, housing, education, physical health and mental health do not sit neatly in separate boxes. Neither can our response.
That is why this inquiry matters and why lived experience must be listened to and translated into action for the future.
