Last week, ahead of Children’s Mental Health Week 2026, our Senior Youth Practitioner Amy, delivered a series of free workshops focused on feelings, empathy and kindness.
Through these sessions, Zachary Geddis Trust reached over 100 children and young people age 3-11 in three local primary schools.
These sessions were designed to increase children’s sense of belonging within their school environment and the wider community, aligning with Children’s Mental Health Week’s theme “This Is My Place.”
Throughout the sessions, we explored how:
- Emotions help us understand ourselves
- Empathy helps us understand others
- Kindness is what we do with that understanding, through our actions, words and choices
We also explored how kindness can be shown in many ways:
- Being kind to ourselves through self-care, positive self-talk and self-belief
- Being kind to others through inclusion, sharing and being helpful
- Being kind to the world around us by caring for our communities and environment
As part of the week, each group took part in creating a Kindness Chain. Each child wrote one act of kindness they could do for themselves, for someone else or for the world around them on a paper strip. When we linked all the strips together, we created a powerful visual reminder that even small acts of kindness, when joined together, can make a big difference and can create a chain of kindness throughout our school and our community.
Every contribution helps us reach more children through workshops like these, 1:1 support, and offering supportive spaces where children can say “this is my place”. If you are in a position to donate, your support would make a meaningful difference:
You can also support us by hosting a fundraiser for The Zachary Geddis Trust Youth Service.
