Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Summer Workshops

Zachary Geddis Trust was delighted to host three training sessions on the important topic of ‘Ending Violence Against Women and Girls’ during July and August.
Two of these sessions were facilitated by Brendan from Nexus NI, who delivered Bystander Awareness and Handling Disclosure workshops to community members and practitioners across the borough.
Some of the feedback from participants included:
  • “Really good training and resources such as videos and exercises.”
  • “Very informative and interactive with peers and videos, sessions were not too long and it was interesting to hear of other people’s experiences/”
  • “Delivered in a non-judgemental way, relevant and accurate information

The training programme was specifically designed to increase knowledge and build upon skills to help End Violence Against Women and Girls.

Through collaborative working with NEXUS NI, The Zachary Geddis Trust delivered three workshops addressing the following themes:

Addressing Gender Norms and Gender Equality Training
This training addressed gender norms and promote gender equality.  We aimed to help participants to recognise and challenge societal expectations about gender roles and to foster inclusive environments.  We also aimed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to promote equality.

Bystander Training: Bystander Awareness
With this session, we aimed to give you the confidence to safely intervene as an active bystander if you witness abuse, assault, or harassment in public, at work, or in your home life.

Handling Disclosures: CPD Accredited
Increase your confidence in responding to disclosures of abuse. We explored the dynamics and impact of grooming and coercive control, and how someone can be impacted.

These workshops were funded by The Northern Ireland Executive Office Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Local Change Fund through The Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

The Local Change Fund supports community networks and provide opportunities for grassroots organisations to play their part in preventing violence, harm and abuse against women and girls.
